The Obelisk Solar Project in Nag Hammadi, Qena Governorate, is a massive solar power station developed by Scatec (Norway) with investments of $600 million. The first phase of 500 MW was inaugurated in January 2026, with a total planned capacity of 1,000–1,100 MW, making it one of the largest integrated solar projects in Egypt. The project includes solar PV panels and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to enhance grid stability. It aims to strengthen the national electricity grid, provide clean energy, and support industrial development in Upper Egypt, specifically the aluminum smelting complex in Nag Hammadi.
